OCR

Apartment 13

OCR (Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations) is a leading UK awarding and examinations body providing qualifications that engage learners of all ages at school, college, in work or through part-time learning programmes to achieve their full potential. They deliver A Levels, GCSEs and vocational qualifications including OCR Nationals, NVQs and Basic Skills to over 13,000 learning establishments.

Client Objective:

OCR approached TAMBA to create a campaign that would generate buzz amongst students for their newly-created OCR National qualification in Forensic Science. As the target demographic were digital natives, our challenge was to produce something interactive and entertaining that the students would want to engage with and share with their friends.

Agency Activity:

TAMBA developed the idea of a crime scene scenario that users could investigate. Apartment 13 is a viral game which sees players investigating the scene of a murder. They must collect evidence and investigate their way to the courtroom to identify the culprit.
The game was illustrated with hand-drawn, cartoon style characters and scenes to ensure the campaign was age-appropriate for the school pupil audience.

Results:

Since launch, this casual gaming campaign has been played 5.6 million times by 4.8 million unique users. The majority of people that have played the game shared it with at least 1 other person and each player spends on average 4.5 minutes playing. This level of efficiency and engagement saw it win The Drum Marketing Award for Best Digital Strategy in 2010. Back
